Client: Prideaux Developments
These high quality, traditionally built apartments provide a positive, contemporary and appropriate contribution to the built environment on the outskirts of St. Ives in Cornwall. Organised on the landward side around a central court, the seaward face fronts onto planted grounds. The building’s public face is on the road leading to the beach, where one curved, zinc-clad wall leads the eye to the views over the sea and towards St. Ives.
Materials selected are generally a natural slate finish on pitched roofs over local granite or render facings and colour coated metalwork and balcony structures that support stainless steel and glass balustrades. Subtle feature lighting accentuates the building at night and carefully specified planting softens the environment.
The building meets environmental objectives by using natural and local materials and local labour where possible, a high efficiency condensing boiler in each apartment to serve an underfloor heating system and high specification windows that incorporate high performance glazing.
